PAPER & INK

This special Hebrew Bible of The Torah Project has been printed on cotton paper which was supplied by the Italian paper mill Magnani House in Pescia. They have a long history of producing the highest quality paper for significant editions for the Vatican and for many prestigious customers since 1404, which include Napoleon Bonaparte’s wedding invitations. The high quality of this paper is due to the unique composition of the water of the Pescia River where it was made; giving the paper an unmatched purity. The traditional methods they use to produce paper are gradually not being used anymore and are becoming extinct.

Their paper keeps well in various environmental conditions and does not discolor or deteriorate as it is made from 100% cotton compared to wood which oxidises in the air and sunlight that makes paper turn yellow. It has also been tinted with natural earth in order to maintain its high quality. Colors appear richer and deeper when printed on this cotton paper. Their paper is one of the strongest and is guaranteed to last over 500 years even with repeated handling. The reason that this material will survive for many future generations is greatly due to the non-acidic processing of the paper and the high quality and durability of linen fibers. This will ensure that important messages of this special Hebrew Bible of The Torah Project will last forever.

The ink used for the hebrew and other texts is a natural oil-based ink which prints well on most surfaces and it gets absorbed into the paper for better adhesion. Also texts printed with oil-based inks look brighter and sharper which allows better visibility than any other types of ink.
