PRINTING
The publisher Nabige was commissioned to print the pages of this special edition of the Hebrew Bible for The Torah Project. They take pride in their work as highly skilled, creative Italian craftsmen continue to using the historical Gutenberg printing methods. This printing process has been used for important historical documents, artworks, religious texts, and laws e.g. the American Declaration of Independence, and the 1454 Gutenberg Bible. The marvel of this technique is that it yields many copies of fairly consistent type very quickly. In addition each page was manually bound by the binding house of Riccardo Steri, based in the town of Corciano, in Umbria.
The 27 exclusive artworks from the artist Baruj Salinas were beautifully reproduced from the original paintings by the printing house Santa Chiara (owned by Master Marcello Tiboni) which is based in the city of Urbino, using Seriolithograph. This printing technique is a combination of the traditional methods of lithography and serigraphy. They used the the best attributes of both techniques:- lithography with the rich colors, and textures created through serigraphy. The method began with lithography where the detailed drawings were made on the lithographs. Then they produced 32 serigraph screens in which each screen is used for a different color. A special paint is applied and spread across a screen and this prints part of the image onto a piece of paper below the screen. It was important that this traditional hybrid method was used in order to reproduce the artwork which mimics the colors and textures as the originals.
