HEBREW CALLIGRAPHY
Hebrew Calligraphy - Visual Art
The Hebrew calligraphy and alphabet were elegantly designed by the calligraphist Izzy Pludwinski from Jerusalem, Israel exclusively for this Hebrew Bible called ‘Dan’s font’. This visual art will always be linked to this work. The initials for each of the 5 books is printed in 1 of 5 colors.
The hebrew text is read for right to left (backwards from English). The lines are flawlessly straight and even. There are numerous religious laws which detail the precise figure of all the letters because they must be absolutely perfect.
What is Hebrew Calligraphy?
Hebrew Calligraphy is the art of creating beautiful symbols and arranging them well. All the Hebrew letters of The Torah are proportional. It was important when designing the letters that visually they should have harmonious relationships with each other and they are perfectly balanced. The letters of a standard Torah scroll are traditionally written in the Assyrian script and Izzy Pludwinski produced a modern hebrew text for the Hebrew Bible which is both authentic and legible.
The aim of using this unique Hebrew calligraphy is to generate an artistic response, and provide a meaningful connection between the calligraphist and the viewer. This visual art is intended for the viewers to feel welcomed and enter into a historical and spiritual reality.
