Read on to see what’s about to happen.
On Wednesday, April 19th, at 5:30pm, in the ‘Serra d’inverno’ conference room of the ‘Palazzo Ducale’, the Renaissance building in Urbino, ACC Arte Scritta (the international book publisher) will present the Hebrew Bible to the Italian city where it was created. The presentation is sponsored by Urbino’s National Gallery in the Marche (Galleria Nazionale delle Marche), which is one of the most important monuments in Italy. The presentation will be followed by a drinks reception at the Dates - ‘Orto dell’Abbondanza’ (Garden of Abundance).
WHAT IS THE TORAH PROJECT?
The Torah Project is a project which has produced an artistic edition of the Hebrew Bible - The Torah (five books of Moses, the Pentateuch). This book has possesses both artistic and religious values.
The Hebrew text is accompanied by commentaries, from renowned personalities in art and biblical studies, which are available in four languages. There are 27 unique paintings from the Jewish Cuban artist - Master Baruj Salinas, that were beautifully reproduced from the original paintings by the printing house Santa Chiara (owned by Marcello and Alberto Tiboni).
There are 126 editions of the Hebrew Bible and each one has a wooden cover (called the Jerusalem Book Cover), made by La Casa Gentili, in the small town of Fossombrone, Italy.
This artistic Hebrew Bible is especially important as each copy contains a handwritten blessing by the Holy Father Pope Francis. He received the first copy at an exclusive presentation at the Vatican on February 23rd 2017. This is the first time in history that a Pope has blessed a Torah book.
THE PRESENTATION AT THE 'GALLERIA NAZIONALE DELLE MARCHE'
The project’s key patron, Dan Tartakovski, will be awarded a certificate of merit from the prestigious museum - Raphael's House (Accademia Raffaello), named after the Renaissance painter, Raffaello Sanzio.
A copy of this Hebrew Bible will be donated to the Palazzo Ducale, to pay tribute to its traditional and modern printers, and to commemorate the Jewish community, which has occupied the city for many centuries. This congregation was in possession of a decorated’ Renaissance Ark (Aron HaKodesh in Hebrew, a cabinet which contains each synagogue's Torah scrolls) from the 1550s, which is now exhibited at the Jewish Museum in New York.
During the presentation in Urbino, the art book will be donated to celebrate the construction of a new printing house in the Italian Renaissance city, where all of the paintings of the book will be studied, expanded and produced.
"We plan to build a printing house based in the City of Urbino, where modern artworks can be created. The help of art students will be crucial and rewarded, and therefore Urbino will be one of the most important collections of modern and Renaissance art in the world. It is an honor for us that this edition will be on display in the Palazzo Ducale, permanently, together with a copy of the Bible of Federico da Montefeltro.”, one of the editors of ACC Arte Scritta.
WHO IS GETTING THE NEXT HEBREW BIBLE?
The next copy will be exhibited at the Jewish Museum of Rome on April 27th 2017. Another copy will also be presented to the President of Israel - Reuven Rivlin, in April in Jerusalem. Even the Prado Museum in Madrid (Museo Nacional Del Prado) will receive a copy of the Hebrew Bible.
